The beast had already raked it's giant claws across the back of her shoulder during the initial charge, and the wound felt deep. She needed to get her bearings. Off to her left she could see Lord Raam hovering in the sky, shooting bolts of fire from his fingers. To her right the few Varnhold militia that remained scattered off to a safe distance; kalladar was with them. She didn't have time to find the cavalier as the land shark had started to come her way, it's maw open and blood running down it's neck in large rivlets.
The land shark towered over Kamilah as it charged, by at least three feet. She raised her hand defensively and struck at what she hoped were important muscles of it's front legs. She cut deep into the beast and it reared back. I think I just pissed it off more, she thought. That's when she heard the thunderous noise coming from the beast. Kamilah closed her eyes, expecting it to do to her what it had just done to her horse.
The thunderous noise grew louder and the earth started to shake. Not thunder, but hooves, Kamilah thought and opened her eyes in time to see a lance head explode from the throat of the bulette. The beast lurched forward and collapsed in front of her, it's head and throat a bloody mess.
Kamilah turned as Balian rode by and watched the cavalier's charge slow to a trot. She felt a pounding in her chest as he started a second pass. "I believe you got it, Lord Balian. I don't think you'll need to double tap the beast."
The cavalier looked down and nodded to her as he passed and went to attend the Baron and the wounded. Kamilah felt the pain in her shoulder and tsk'd in annoyance. She pulled off her ruined blouse and used the fabric to put pressure on the wound. Her heart was still pounding and she could still feel the power of horse and man as Balian had taken down the beast.
Kamilah took a moment to clear her head and then returned to the group. Out of the corner of her eye she watched the Lord General of Miras.
