House Shrike was formed when Balian married Svetlana Leveton and was knighted by his Baron Raam Miras. He took the name Shrike from the local river as a way to formally break any familial ties to the North. Earlier in the year Balian started construction of Carseld, a timber hall on a hill overlooking where the Shrike and Thorn rivers converge. Deadly events on their wedding knight inspired the the noble couple to begin a series of projects that will insure House Shrike will never be as caught off guard as Stagfell was on The Long Night. Wini, a young female cavalier,is appointed to be Svetlana's personal guard.

There is rejoicing Carseld as Svetlana gives birth to a baby girl. Few can remember a time when Balian has seemed so happy. Late in the month the couple hosts a feast in Carseld to celebrate. The cavaliers and fighting men of the kingdom also salute the completion of a monument in Stagfell, The Troll War Memorial, honoring the brave citizens of Miras who gave their lives so that the fledgling kingdom might survive.
