Chase sat there in the window sill before dropping down to the floor. Chase wanted it to look like he came through the window and not the myriad of passages that he was having the kobolds create for him at night through the walls of the castle. Chase would share those passages with the others when he knew which of them he could trust. This would be one those times Chase would test his companion to see if he could trust him.
“I just wanted to report so you were aware of the what is going on in your kingdom.”
My kingdom, no matter how many times Raam heard that it still sounded strange to him, “So my friend what is there to report.”
Chase walked casually to the fire that was burning in the hearth. The air outside was still warm with the last remnants of summer still hanging on, so the fire was not really needed. On top of that Chase was ever really bothered by the thermal differences that came with the changes in seasons. Another gift from his devil parentage he supposed, but the sound of the burning wood added a little noise to help cover to their conversation, “Nothing really, everything is going along quite well actually.”
Raam looked up from the letters that he was pursuing. He had no doubt that Chase could tell him what each of the letters said even with out opening them. “So then what about the issue with this courier I have heard about and how it might have involved Zuhair?”
“It’s no longer an issue.” Chase said in a flat and even tone, “The courier did indeed insult Zuhair in front of his men, but Zuhair did not rise to the occasion and let them man leave with his life.”
“I take it someone else was not as benevolent to our poorly mannered courier?” Raam asked looking closely at Chase for a reaction.
Chase leaned back against the hearth and looked at Raam. “Do you want the truth Raam or do you want the same tripe I fed Zuhair and the rest of them?”
Raam looked a little surprised by Chase’s straight forward response, while it was never easy to tell if Chase was telling the truth, but you always felt like he was never telling you everything. “Yes, you know I trust your judgment, did not our battle against the Staglord make us brother’s born in fire?”
Chase always smiled when Raam referred to the battle that took place on this very spot as some baptism of fire that the both of them went through. Truth be told though had the circumstance’s been different he would have killed Raam and the rest of them if it meant saving his daughter Katrina who was being held captive by the Staglord.
“You know I respect you Raam, but I always like to give people the option, either face the truth or live happily in ignorance.” Chase watched Raam nod and then went on, “I confronted the courier about his spreading the details of Zuhair’s issue with reading and the fact that he was doing it in a most disrespectful manner.”
Chase stopped for a second taking special attention to watch Raam’s face for any sign of disapproval, “The courier was given options, but he seemed to have issues with authority and when confronted with his options, he choose one that ended up with him floating face first in the Tuskwater.”
Chase then stared at Raam waiting his reply.
