When Kesten first came to Oleg's he led four irregulars charged with the protection of the trade post. He remains the last of that group alive, the others having perished to banditry and during the battle with crimelord Marson.
Kesten still wears his heraldry for House Garess since being cast out before coming to the stolen lands in what he had hoped would be a valiant last stand or less likely an honorable victory. Since then Kesten has found that and so much more thanks to the Lords of Stagfell and his friendship with Balian.
Kesten barely survived a run in with a war band of trolls sent by the troll king Hargulka back during the troll wars where he lost his leg. With the help of his friends he was able to regrow it with a ring of regeneration. Now he is back in his station serving loyally as the new Warden of Miras.
